Carlito S. Puno, DPA

Office of the City Mayor

Letran-Abucay brings the Dominican brand of education not only to the people of Abucay but also to Bataan. I am so glad and proud in being part of the making of Colegio de San Juan de Letran- Abucay. It is indeed a dream come true. St. Dominic de Guzman, the founder of Dominicans is the patron saint of the municipality of Abucay. He has been a strong influence in the lives of the people of our town and I am confident that the Colegio will likewise exert its influence on the lives of the young people of Bataan.

The establishment of Colegio in the town of Abucay strengthens the bond of friendship and unity between the Dominicans and the government officials of Abucay. The presence of Letran-Abucay will pave the way for a speedy progress of our municipality. It is for this reason that I express my gratitude to the Dominicans for choosing Abucay as the site of Letran.

Our support for Letran-Abucay is and will always be constant.

More power and Arriba Letran!

OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR

In behalf of the people of Bataan, I would like to express my heartfelt congratulations to the Letran community on the blessing and inauguration of the Letran Bataan campus on June 4, 2006.

I am most especially grateful to the Letran community for bringing to the people of Bataan and of the neighboring provinces, quality education for the integral formation of the human person in tradition of Deus, Patria, Letran for the greater glory of God, of the country and of Letran.

In practical terms, students from Central Luzon no longer have to go to Metro Manila to study and earn a worthy college degree. For these students and their parents, the costs of tertiary education will drastically decrease. For the beneficiaries of the Iskolar ng Bataan Program, Letran Bataan provides an excellent option to earn a degree at affordable costs in Information Technology, Accountancy and Business Management and in other courses that will be offered in the future.

Bataan is the Altar of Sacrifice on which Filipinos from all over the Philippines laid their lives for God and country. It is my hope that Letran Bataan will enable the present generation of Filipinos in Bataan and in Central Luzon, whose roots come from all over the Philippines, to become, in the words of our beloved Bishop Socrates Villegas, a “blessing to the country and to the world”.

Arriba Letran!

Enrique Garcia Jr.
Governor

DIOCESE OF BALANGA

Greetings to the priests and brothers of the Order of Preachers on the occasion of the opening of the new Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Abucay, Bataan!

The history of Christianity in Bataan cannot be written without the glorious and zealous Dominican missionaries who tirelessly and selflessly established the towns and barrios of Bataan. From the missionary labors of the Dominicans, Bataan produced national heroes like Cayetano Arellano and Tomas Pinpin. From among the Dominican priests who worked in Bataan, one has become a canonized saint of our Holy Mother Church, San Miguel de Aozoraza, former pastor of the parish of Santo Domingo in Abucay.

With the return fo the Dominicans to Bataan, we are hopeful that Letran will become the instrument of the Lord to make more heroes and saints for Bataan, for the nation and for the Church.
I invoke the blessings of God upon this apostolic undertaking!

Arriba!

Socrates B. Villegas
Bishop of Balanga

DOMINICAN PROVINCE OF THE PHILIPPINES

Dear brothers and sisters,

It feels me with great joy to see my own alma mater grow and reach out beyond the walls of Intramuros. Education after all, to be true to its essence, can never be imprisoned within any wall. On the contrary, genuine education should equip its students with the wings to soar even to unchartered territory. True education should lead to the freedom that will inspire men and women to effect change. In the words of Paulo Freire:
“ Education either functions as an instrument which is used to facilitate integration of the younger generation into the logic of the present system and bring about conformity or it becomes the practice of freedom, the means by which men and women deal critically and creatively with reality and discover how to participate in the transformation of their world.”

More than ever, by inaugurating Colegio de San Juan de Letran in Abucay, we renew our commitment to contribute to the perfection of the human person and to do our part in transforming people who will transform our country and, in effect, our world.

May God, who is infinite wisdom, continue to re-create you and guide you as form those who come under your tutelage.

Arriba Letran!

Fraternally Yours in St. Dominic,
Rev. Fr. Edmund C. Nantes, O.P.
Prior Provincial
