by Jhennie Caldito - Letran News August 2006

Candidates of the two parties together with their advisers, John-John Cundangan (DEUS) and Christina de Leon (CREED), pose for photo op with Fr. Boyd Sulpico, O.P., Office of the Student and Cultural Affairs head.

Recently, Letran students gathered together to cast their votes for their officers who will lead them in student activities.

Two political parties were established, the Court of Ready to Serve Endeavors and Ecclesiastic Defenders (CREED) and Defenders of Excellence and Unity of the Students (DEUS), where DEUS won all seats except for Secretary position. A miting de avance was set on July 28 where each party was given a chance to speak before the studentry and present its platform of government.

Candidates vying for the position had their usual campaign period where they distributed flyers, posted printed materials about themselves, and went on the usual room-to-room campaign.

Considered as the first in the history of Letran-Abucay, students showed enthusiasm and willingness to serve their co-students exerting extra time going to the campus even if they did not have classes.

They, too, took time in consulting their respective advisers in matters relating to their plans and actions for the studentry.

The following are the newly-elected student council officers: President, Edgar Soterio; Vice President, Mary Ann Laxamana; Secretary,Denise Paul Rodriguez; Treasurer, Eva Victoria Banzon; Auditor, Charisse Sy; P.R.O., Karen Annie Mae Matias; and Sargeant at Arms, Adrian Paul Go.

Student Council officers will have their first activity on August 25 as they join in the national tree planting activity sponsored by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
