Colegio de San Juan de Letran Intramuros started basic Mandarin lessons for grades one and two last November 4, 2009. On the third week of November, the same course started for the hospitality management students of the school.

The Letran Student Chinese Association under the auspices of the Letran Grupo de Fil-Chinos is coordinating the project, a long time dream of Letran and its alumni. The eight Chinese teachers are volunteers from the International Youth Foundation (IYF) and they will handle the classes on a rotation basis. The trial run will last for four months with two sessions every Tuesday and Wednesday. Each session will be for an hour; the first session for elementary pupils and the second for the hospitality management group.

The Letran Grupo de Fil-Chinos will provide the meals and allowances of the tutors.
